Every Indian pregnancy comes with a devoted advisory committee of aunties. Much of the advice is love in disguise — and some of it deserves a gentle fact-check. Our rule of thumb: keep the traditions that bring you comfort, retire the ones that bring you fear.
“Eat for two.” Retire it. You need zero extra calories in the first trimester and only a snack’s worth extra later. “Ghee makes for an easy delivery.” Ghee is delicious and fine in moderation, but labour ease is about baby’s position and your body — no food lubricates a birth canal.
