“Every day, your baby grows more human. Every week, you grow more ready. Week 11 is where change becomes visible and wonder becomes real.”
Welcome to Week 11 of pregnancy — a week filled with visible changes, deeper emotional bonding, and exciting development milestones. You’re now just one step away from the second trimester, and for many women, this week brings a gentle shift in energy and mood.
At My Blooming Belly, we’re here to help you understand what’s happening inside you and offer tips to support your growing baby and evolving self, week by beautiful week.
Your Baby at 11 Weeks
Measuring about 1.6 inches (4 cm) long and weighing nearly 0.25 ounces (7 grams), your little one is about the size of a fig. This week, the baby is rapidly progressing in terms of structure and function:
- Body catches up: The baby’s head is still large but now more proportionate to the body.
- Toes and fingers: Fingers and toes are fully separated and no longer webbed — tiny nails are forming too!
- Movement: Baby can move freely and is stretching, rolling, and kicking — though you won’t feel it just yet.
- External genitalia: Forming and beginning to differentiate, although still too small to be visible on ultrasound.
- Diaphragm and breathing motions: Baby is practicing breathing movements by inhaling amniotic fluid.
- Developing face: Eyelids, ears, and nasal passages are nearly formed and migrating into place.
In essence, your baby is looking less like a tadpole and more like a tiny human being — full of potential and protected in your womb.
Your Body at 11 Weeks
While you may not have a prominent bump yet, your uterus is now the size of a grapefruit and may be lifting above your pelvic bone. For some, a small curve in the lower belly may begin to show!
- Reduced nausea: Many moms notice their morning sickness easing slightly as hormones begin to level off.
- Increased energy: A welcome return of strength may help you tackle daily tasks more comfortably.
- Breast tenderness continues: Your milk ducts are expanding and hormonal activity is high.
- Digestive woes: Gas, bloating, and heartburn may persist due to slower digestion.
- Skin changes: Pregnancy glow, darkened areolas, and a more sensitive complexion may all appear.
Some women may begin gaining a pound or two this week. It’s completely normal — your body is supporting the creation of a whole new life!
Emotional Experience
With visible changes and shifting symptoms, your emotions may also begin to settle. You might feel:
- More connected: With every milestone, the reality of pregnancy becomes more tangible.
- Less anxious: As the risk of early miscarriage drops, many women feel more relaxed and confident.
- Hopeful and excited: You may begin imagining your baby’s features, future, and even their personality.
Of course, mood swings can still occur. It’s okay to feel a mix of excitement and overwhelm — lean on loved ones or seek community through prenatal groups or journaling.
Nutrition Focus: Fueling Growth
Your baby’s bones, muscles, and nervous system are developing rapidly — and your diet plays a key role. This week, focus on:
- Vitamin B6: Supports hormone balance and reduces nausea. Found in bananas, chicken, and whole grains.
- Calcium: Aids bone and tooth development. Include dairy, tofu, broccoli, and almonds.
- Choline: Crucial for brain development. Eggs are an excellent source.
- Folic Acid: Continue supplementation for spinal cord health.
- Stay hydrated: Keep your water intake up to reduce headaches, fatigue, and constipation.
A small shift in nutrition can make a big difference — your baby’s body is using everything you give it to build life from scratch.
To-Do List This Week
- Book your NT scan: Typically done between Weeks 11–13 to check for chromosomal abnormalities.
- Consider announcing: Many parents wait until the end of the first trimester to share the news — you’re almost there!
- Start light exercise: Prenatal yoga, swimming, or walking can lift your mood and support circulation.
- Research prenatal classes: It’s never too early to plan ahead for labor, breastfeeding, and parenting.
- Create a gratitude journal: A few lines each night can nurture joy and mindfulness during this special time.
